Who pays Land Transfer Tax in Ontario?
The buyer pays LTT when a property is transferred. It is calculated based on the purchase price using progressive brackets. Toronto buyers also pay a second municipal LTT (MLTT).
How does the first-time buyer rebate work?
Eligible first-time buyers (Canadian citizen or PR, 18+, home as principal residence, never owned anywhere) can claim a rebate of up to ,000 (Ontario) and $4,475 (Toronto). The rebate is applied at closing.
